Welcome to SN SciGraph, our Linked Open Data offering which aggregates data sources from Springer Nature and key partners from the scholarly domain. The Linked Open Data platform collates information from across the research landscape, for example, funders, research projects, conferences, affiliations, and publications.

Additional data, such as citations, patents, clinical trials, and usage numbers will follow over time. This high-quality data from trusted and reliable sources provides a rich semantic description of how information is related, as well as enables innovative visualizations of the scholarly domain.

By doing so, SN SciGraph overcomes former boundaries by relating comprehensive information about the research landscape. It represents a further step in data integration and it will continue to grow organically. Our aim is to increase the discoverability of high-quality data as larger parts of our datasets are being made available under CC-BY licensing.

Dimensions

From the very beginning of the Dimensions project, we knew we didn’t want to simply create another A&I database. Our goal was to provide a fresh take on research information; a more open and comprehensive data infrastructure that empowered users to explore connections between a wide range of research data.

That fresh approach extended to the project team. Digital Science and our portfolio companies ReadCube, Altmetric, Figshare, Symplectic, Digital Science Consultancy and ÜberResearch, didn’t build Dimensions alone. We worked closely with the research community throughout the project, a relationship that continues to drive new developments today.

Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID)

ORCID provides a persistent digital identifier (an ORCID iD) that you own and control, and that distinguishes you from every other researcher. You can connect your iD with your professional information — affiliations, grants, publications, peer review, and more. You can use your iD to share your information with other systems, ensuring you get recognition for all your contributions, saving you time and hassle, and reducing the risk of errors.

Registry of Open Access Repositories (ROAR)

The aim of ROAR is to promote the development of open access by providing timely information about the growth and status of repositories throughout the world. Open access to research maximises research access and thereby also research impact, making research more productive and effective.

Dimensions.ai - Free Web App

All publications and citations together with rich contextual information – freely available for personal, non-commercial use.

Dimensions contains more than 100 million publications, ranging from articles published in scholarly journals, books, and book chapters, to preprints and conference proceedings. All publications are contextualized with linked data sets, funding, publications, patents, clinical trials, and policy documents. You can also view associated categories, funders, institutions, and researcher profiles.

Green open access – also known as self-archiving – refers to making a work published with a publisher available to the public in an institutional or disciplinary open access repository. It is sometimes understood to refer also to making such a work available on the author’s personal website. Self-archiving can take place at the same time as the publication of the content by the publisher or at a later date, and is possible for preprints and post-prints of scholarly articles, as well as for other document types, for example, monographs, research reports, and conference proceedings.

Citation Gecko
Citation Gecko is a new free online app that helps you find the most relevant papers to your research and gives you a “complete sense of the research landscape.” You start from a small set of seed papers that define an area you are interested in and then Gecko will search the citation network for connected papers, allowing you to quickly identify important papers you may have missed. Try it!
How Unpaywall is transforming open science
Unpaywall has become indispensable to many academics, and tie-ins with established scientific search engines could broaden its reach. After being kicked out of a hotel conference room where they had participated in a three-day open-science workshop and hackathon, a group of computer scientists simply moved to an adjacent hallway. There, Heather Piwowar, Jason Priem and Cristhian Parra worked all night on software to help academics to illustrate how much of their work was freely available on the Internet. They realized how much time had passed only when they noticed hotel staff starting to prepare for breakfast.

Open Government Data Toolkit
The Open Government Data Toolkit is designed to help governments, Bank staff and users understand the basic precepts of Open Data, then get “up to speed” in planning and implementing an open government data program, while avoiding common pitfalls.
Societal Readiness Thinking Tool.
To use the tool, start by registering your project. Registering allows you to save your work and continue at a later point in time. The tool can also be used without registration. Next, select your project’s current research phase. Then select if you want to use the tool based on a specified entry point (i.e. your specific motivation for using the tool), or tick off the RRI-related keys or conditions that you wish to focus on. When you are done using the tool, you can download a summary of your work in a PDF file. The thinking tool includes ‘tool-tips’ to help you navigate the tool.
Concept Note - New Horrizon - Societal Readiness Thinking Tool.
Scientists and policy makers increasingly recognize responsible research and innovation (RRI) as a key priority in European research and innovation. Yet, the research and policy literature on RRI still lacks practical methods for implementation. How can theoretical and policy-based ideas about RRI be applied in the real world? How can procedural RRI-dimensions such as anticipation, reflexivity, inclusion and responsiveness be meaningfully translated into research and innovation practices? In this deliverable (6.1), we take a first stab at developing a Thinking Tool that offers practical guidance on how to mature the societal readiness of research projects. The proposed Thinking Tool adopts a stage-gating inspired processual focus. It carves out a generic methodology allowing researchers to reflect on the societal ap-propriateness of their work at critical stages in the project life-cycle. Insights derived from the RRI liter-ature guide the specific reflection points raised at each project stage. The thinking tool is dynamic by design and open for ongoing adjustments and refinements. During the next 12 months, the relevance of the Thinking Tool will be tested in close collaboration with project participants from Horizon 2020’s different funding streams. This will help to ensure that the tool is useful in different research and inno-vation contexts. A refined version of the Thinking Tool, co-produced with participants in the New HoR-RIzon Social Labs, will be published as Deliverable 6.2 in April 2019. In Deliverable 6.2, we also plan to extend the content of the Thinking Tool to include a section with brief descriptions of existing methods and resources for improving the societal readiness of research projects. Deliverable 6.2 will also provide real-world examples of how existing research projects have benefitted from using these methods and resources. In the document at hand, we briefly outline what such descriptions and examples may look like.
